Despite their essential role, many care workers face low wages, limited benefits, and few opportunities for career advancement, resulting in high turnover and instability within the sector.
Building a Stronger Workforce is an issue brief that:
- Examines the challenges facing both childcare and direct care workers and describes why skills-focused policies can strengthen this essential workforce;
- Highlights why workforce development leaders should improve training and career pathways and expand access to these crucial services; and
- Illustrates how National Skills Coalition is taking action to ensure care workers have access to skills training, career pathways to good jobs, and supportive services, especially in an everchanging economy where working people increasingly need care to prosper. Our actions include the newly launched Care Workforce Advisory Council to address the urgent challenges facing the care workforce as demand for long-term care and childcare services continues to grow nationally.
